Hello,

I am your Superintendent Dr. Esparza.

As you may already know the Los Angeles County Public Health Department has announced that the coronavirus continues to spread throughout Los Angeles County which includes Pico Rivera.

As your Superintendent I am cognoscente of the fact that the virus is going to affect how we start the new school year.

Prior to this week, El rancho Leadership staff, and union partners were creating a vision for the school reopening with a Hybrid Model.

Due to increased numbers of coronavirus in our County we need to focus on three highly important objectives:

the learning needs of students
the health and safety of everyone in our school community
and the impact the virus is having on our working families

As we work to open the new school year on August 24th, I am proposing that it not begin with students physically at school sites.

The health and safety of all in our school community is not something that we can compromise.

I have made the recommendation to the El Rancho Unified School District’s Board of Education Members, that we begin the school year with online distance-learning. The safety of our students and staff come first.

Note that online distance learning will allow the district the time to put rigorous safety measures in place for possibly opening up later in the semester or in the year with a Hybrid education model.  That choice will be made in the near future.

At the July 21st Board Meeting, the District’s Cabinet and I will share more information on opening the school year with online distance learning

It is at that time that our Board members and the public can provide input on my recommendation to begin the school year with online distance learning.

Thank you for supporting me to ensure that we do not ever compromise the health and safety of our students and staff.
