Board of Education Meeting Cancelled

Due to the public health crisis created by the coronavirus, the El Rancho Unified School District Board of Education meeting scheduled for April 7, 2020 has been cancelled.

Update on the Coronavirus

The health and well-being of students and staff are always our top priority. You may have heard that Los Angeles County has declared a local health emergency in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). 

According to the LA County Department of Public Health (DPH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), we can expect more confirmed cases in the near future. The focus continues to be on preventing the spread of the illness by following basic sanitary practices. It is a good time for all of us to become prepared, but not to panic.

Information on the Novel Coronavirus

The El Rancho Unified School District is working closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) and the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) in preparation and response to possible concerns related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Board Member Jose Lara Resigns from the El Rancho Unified School District Governing Board

Mr. Jose Lara’s resignation from the Governing Board of the El Rancho Unified School District effective February 5, 2020 has been confirmed.

Mr. Lara was the longest serving member of the Board at the time of his resignation. During his six years on the Board, Mr. Lara was an advocate for student mental health services, an active supporter of the Ethnic Studies Program, as well as a champion for our Special Education students, and a huge proponent for Class Size Reduction. He represented the District on various committees, including the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association (LACSTA) – 2015-2016, Whittier Area Cooperative Special Education Program (WACSEP) – 2015, 2018, and the California School Boards Delegate Assembly for – 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. On behalf of the Superintendent, Dr. Frances Esparza, we extend our most sincere gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Lara for his service to the El Rancho community.

Superintendent Esparza has been working with the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters to announce that under election law, this vacancy cannot be filled until the recall election takes place. When the recall occurs, the results of the recall (for qualified candidates only) will be provided at that time.

El Rancho Adult Education Center

The El Rancho Adult Education Center will be open for registration January 6-10, 2020 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The winter session classes begin on January 13, 2020. For more information, please call the El Rancho Adult Education Center at (562) 801-7710.

Accessing your Child's State Test Scores

To generate your child's electronic student score report, follow these steps:
1. Log in to your parent portal account
2. Under the "Test Scores" tab, click on "State Test Scores Report"
3. In the box titled "CAASPP" click on "2019" for the most recent scores

If you have not set up your parent portal account or are having difficulty accessing your parent portal account, please contact your child's school office for assistance.

Contract with HPLE Terminated

Effective May 20, 2019, High Performance Learning Environments’ (HPLE) contract is considered terminated. HPLE voluntarily submitted a letter of resignation on May 17, and the District responded on May 20 confirming termination of the District’s agreement with HPLE, subject to board ratification. Upon board ratification, the agreement will be terminated without cause or penalty; the District has requested that HPLE return all applicable records, software, and plans within fourteen days. The Office of the Superintendent is working with the District’s legal counsel to prepare and publish a Request for Qualifications/Request for Proposals (RFQ/RFP) for construction management services in order to ensure the Measure ER bond construction program remains a high-quality, on-schedule and on-budget project.
