CHOICES – Youth Empowerment Conference

The CHOICES Youth Empowerment Conference hosted by the SPIRITT Family Services, Rio Hondo College, The Hispanic Outreach Taskforce and various organizations, will take place on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Rio Hondo College, 3600 Workman Mill Road in Whittier. El Rancho Unified School District students in grades 9-11 will attend this event. The goal of the Youth Conference is to have students leave with hope, empowerment, knowledge, self-worth, and a connection to a community that cares. The conference workshop topics include education, self-development/improvement, health, and career. The purpose is to build dreams and open doors for the hapless and at risk students in our communities.

Day for the Dons – One City One Team

Join celebrity football coaches and former professional athletes for a one-day football camp to learn the fundamentals of football in a fun and competitive environment. Cost of $35 per player for youths between the ages of 10-18 includes lunch and a camp t-shirt.

National Football Foundation Selects Vinnie Lopez as Coach of the Year

The El Rancho Unified School District Board of Education extends congratulations to Vinnie Lopez, El Rancho High School Varsity Football Head Coach, for being selected as the National Football Foundation Coach of the Year. This is an exceptional honor as there are 72 high schools in the San Gabriel/Pasadena Chapter that runs from Pasadena to Claremont and La Canada to Bell Gardens.

Board of Education Honors Administrator of the Year

The El Rancho Unified School District Board of Education extends congratulations to Roxane Fuentes, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, for being selected as the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Administrator of the Year in Region XV for the category of Curriculum and Instruction. This is an exceptional honor as there are 56 school districts in ACSA Region XV.

El Rancho Unified is fortunate and proud to have Ms. Fuentes in the District working diligently, tirelessly and professionally on behalf of students, staff, parents and the community of Pico Rivera. Ms. Fuentes is another example why the El Rancho Unified School District is considered as a district on the move and in the midst of transformation for the benefit of students.

Ms. Fuentes' name will now be forwarded to the ACSA organization state-wide for consideration as the State ACSA Administrator of the Year Award. Ms. Fuentes will be honored at the Region XV Spring Conference and Awards banquet which will be held on April 29, 2015. If Ms. Fuentes is selected as the State ACSA Administrator of the Year, she will be honored at the State ACSA Leadership Conference in November.

Future Don Night Slated at El Rancho High

El Rancho High School invites the community to learn more about El Rancho High at its Future Don Night which is slated for Thursday, March 12, 2015 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the school’s main gym. Future Don Night is an opportunity for students and parents/guardians of incoming 9th graders to become familiar with El Rancho High. This event offers an opportunity for students and parents to learn about high school graduation, college entrance requirements, activities, the arts, sports and extracurricular activities as well as a chance to meet teachers, counselors, coaches, administrators and other helpful staff. Future Don Night is only the first in a series of activities developed to assist students and parents in making a successful transition from middle school to high school and beyond!

Generation First Degree - College Financial Aid Town Hall

Generation 1st Degree Pico Rivera will host a FREE workshop for Pico Rivera families to learn how to pay for their child's college education from top experts. Specialists from area universities, financial institutions and scholarship foundations will be available to answer questions.

All Pico Rivera families, especially those with young children and preteens are highly encouraged to attend as well as parents of children in high school. Free childcare and Spanish language translation will be provided.
