The Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation along with the El Rancho Unified School District (ERUSD) distributed “Bags of Books” for kindergarten students in the district during the week of September 9th. Last year’s distribution was a huge success and was greatly appreciated by district students, parents and staff.
This year the Cisneros Foundation has once again donated book bags filled with ten books for every kindergarten student at all eight elementary schools in the ERUSD that correlate with their classroom reading program in an effort to provide a positive beginning for each student as they embark on their pathway to literacy.
In support of the Generation 1st Degree initiative, the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation in conjunction with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the El Rancho Unified School District are working together towards the goal of having one person in every household receive a college degree. Research states a child’s success in school is largely dependent on their success in reading. Children need positive experiences and exposure to books at an early age. It is the hope of the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation that these Book Bags will be used by each child and their parents to establish a solid foundation in literacy.
