STEAM Academy @Burke Receives Statewide Recognition

The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program. 275 middle schools and high schools are being honored this year based on a model program or practice their school has adopted that includes standards-based activities, projects, strategies, and practices that can be replicated by other local educational agencies. STEAM Academy @Burke received its recognition for its innovative project based learning model. The Gold Ribbon Awards also recognize California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These include the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards. Again, STEAM Academy @Burke students surpassed state and local averages in language arts and mathematics in 2016. The Title I Academic Achieving School award and the California Business for Education Excellence award recognize schools that are consistently raising academic achievement and reducing achievement gaps so that others can learn from their best practices.

STEAM Academy @Burke opened its doors in the fall of 2014. We are incredibly proud of the dedicated efforts of Ms. Edna Tristan, Principal, the teachers, support staff, parents, and students. We are appreciative of their commitment to providing innovative teaching and learning strategies for our students ensuring their success both academically and socially.
