School of Choice Application 2022/2023

Dear Families,
Our schools offer a variety of specialized programs, as well as a multitude of opportunities for students. The El Rancho Unified School District would like to provide families the option to have their children attend a school within our district other than their neighborhood school through our districtwide School of Choice process.

Although the School of Choice process allows a parent/guardian to select a school within the district that is outside of the student's school of residence, enrollment is dependent on actual spaces available at an individual school site, by grade level desired, and program availability. Below is a list of dates to keep in mind if considering the School of Choice Process:

January 25th - February 25, 2022 Application submission window for School of Choice.
February 28th - March 11th, 2022 District Processing of School of Choice applications.
March 14th - March 18th, 2022  Families notified of decision. 
April 18th - April 22nd Families notification of decision for Ellen Ochap Prep and STEAM Academy @ Burke

School of Choice Key Points:

The School of Choice Process allows a family to apply for any school outside of their school of residence for the upcoming school year (2022-2023):
  • Applications are open to all current and incoming TK-8th grade students.
  • Selection is based on space availability and completion of the application process.
  • If your child will continue to attend his/her current school, you do not need to complete this process; simply complete the online data confirmation process (contact your school site if you have any questions regarding data confirmation).
  • Additional review may be required by the Department of Special Education for students enrolled in a special education program.
  • Transportation to the school of choice is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
*** If you have applied for Ellen Ochoa Prep or STEAM Academy @ Burke, please be advised that additional criteria (e.g. grades, attendance, citizenship) will be reviewed as part of the enrollment process at the respective sites. A school site team committee will review the application individually and notify the district office of their decision. Please note notifications of acceptance to these schools will be during the week of April 18-22, 2021
