ERUSD Suicide Prevention – Overview

El Rancho Unified School District is committed to preventing suicide and supporting the mental, emotional, and social well-being of all students. Suicide prevention is a shared responsibility between schools, families, students, and community partners.

The district’s comprehensive approach includes prevention, intervention, and postvention.

Prevention – Before a Crisis

  • Staff training on warning signs and referral procedures
  • Student learning focused on coping and resiliency skills
  • Family education and community partnerships

Intervention – When There Is a Concern

  • Immediate response by trained school staff
  • Parent/guardian notification
  • Coordination with mental health professionals
  • Emergency services when required

Postvention – After a Loss

  • Support for students, staff, and families
  • Monitoring of students who may be at higher risk
  • Coordination with community agencies
