ERUSD Opens the Ellen Ochoa Prep Academy

Ellen Ochoa, Ph.D., is currently the Director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Ochoa, originally from Los Angeles, CA, became the first Hispanic woman to go to space when served aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Dr. Ochoa has been recognized with numerous awards throughout her successful career, some of those being the Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award, NASA's Distinguished Service Medal, and the Hispanic Engineer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity. Dr. Ochoa received her degree in Physics from San Diego State University and her degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

The Ellen Ochoa Prep Academy has adopted the Hawk as it's mascot, as Hawks are symbolic of: flight, vision, foresight, intelligence, and focus. In addition, the school colors chosen will be Dark Red and Gold.

The Ellen Ochoa Prep Academy will begin accepting applications from any current 8th grade student, from all local school distircts, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
